Materials
A large part of the legacy we leave lies in the materials we use.
Every decision has an impact, so we must choose wisely to find the balance between form, function and footprint.
Homegrown, local timber
Versatile, warm, and effortlessly beautiful, wood is a material we love working with for many reasons.
To minimise our environmental impact, we prioritise sourcing from suppliers like Fallen and Felled, who collect trees from the London area. When necessary, we extend our search to other British-grown timbers.
By sourcing as locally as possible, we reduce the embodied carbon associated with transportation.
If a project requires timber not available at Fallen and Felled or other British sources, we look to FSC-certified timber from overseas. This is grown forests that are sustainably managed and environmentally responsible.
The Forest Stewardship Council’s global standards ensures that the forest is managed in a way that preserves biological diversity, benefits the lives of local communities and workers, and maintains economic viability.
Paints and finishes
We believe that when used in the right way, a dash of colour can lift the soul and brighten your day.

Some projects call for a light finish that elevates the natural wood grain, others can be transformed with bold accents of paint.

We use finishes to enhance the aesthetic and durability of our work. By opting for sustainably produced paints and finishes, we reduce our environmental impact while crafting long-lasting pieces.
Metals and metalwork
Used structurally as well as decoratively to great effect, metals such as wrought iron can be fully recycled.

Our artisan metalworkers sculpt, forge and weld the elements that make our products so unique.
However, it is important to design the use of metal features so they can easily be separated from other materials around it. We design for practical disassembly to make this easier.
